Inordinate - Epilogue
Yaga jolted up from his sleep with urgency.
She winced, “Ouch,” he had knocked his head against hers with the force with which he lifted his head. She had been peering at him closely since he fainted about five minutes ago.
He rubbed his forehead, “I'm sorry. Are you okay?”
Nora did not respond, because the question was strange. How could she be okay in a place like this? What kind of kidnapper wants to know if their victim is okay?
He noted her lack of response and signed, remembering the food he had kept for her in the kitchen. Without hesitation, he pulled off his mask, revealing his face. “My name is Yagazie, and I am so sorry that I allowed those guys to put you in this position. I have a plan to get you out but I need you to work with me.”
The girl stood up and moved to the far end of the room, this can't be real, she thought. His hair was a mess, and the kind eyes did not match the rest of his face. “What do you mean sir?”
“I am going to try to help you escape, okay?”He tried to sound as reassuring as possible, even as he calculated the possibility of failure. Sometime ago, he had been prescribed sleeping pills, and he stood up to search for them in the pockets of all the trousers hanging in his wardrobe. When he found them, he pumped his fist in the air, then slipped two pills into his mouth and covered his face with the mask again. Then he rushed to the kitchen to make sure the food he left there would induce diarrhea in the eater.
He returned and lay down on the floor.
“What are you doing?” Nora asked, slightly agitated by his quick movements.
“I don't expect you to trust me, but just do one thing for me”, he begged "I'm going to pretend to faint now, and once I do that, I need you to scream as loud as you can. Wake up the others.”
“Why are you sleeping? How will you save me if you sleep?”
He had imagined various scenarios in his head, but in all of them, one thing was certain: Wayo's perfect plan needed to crumble. He knew his cousin too well - hidden behind his suave looks, is an anxious guy that loses his cool whenever things went out of his control.
Before he closed his eyes, he said “If you feel confused, you should pray.” Turning to the soldier, he asked, “right?”
